Moonlit Dragon is one of Kaiyi Wong’s earliest large-scale public installations, and a formative work in the development of his practice.

Created for Kwai Chai Hong in Kuala Lumpur, the installation transformed a narrow heritage alley into the glowing den of a mythical dragon. Built from timber framing, translucent plates, and warm internal lighting, the work allowed the dragon to appear as both creature and architecture — winding through the passage as visitors moved beneath and around it.

Rooted in Chinese folklore, Moonlit Dragon explores the dragon as a symbol of protection, unity, strength, and prosperity. Rather than presenting the myth as a static image, the installation turned it into an immersive spatial experience, where light, material, and movement created a sense of wonder within the existing urban fabric.

The project became an important early milestone for the artist, marking a shift toward larger public works that combine cultural storytelling, architectural structure, and emotional atmosphere.
