Perseverance 毅 is a mixed media light installation that reflects on identity, expectation, and the courage to choose one’s own path.

The work takes its title from the artist’s given Chinese name, 毅, meaning perseverance. It carries the hopes embedded in a name, while also questioning the pressure to fulfil the life that others imagine for us.

Built from LED strip lights, aluminium, and tangled cables, the installation visualises an internal struggle between structure and freedom. The red and white lights suggest conflicting thoughts, decisions, and emotions, while the overlapping forms of 毅 appear almost obscured, reflecting how identity is shaped through confusion, pressure, and change.

Perseverance is a personal work about moving from expectation toward self-discovery — and finding the strength to create a life that feels true.
